Teenager Allegedly Kills 12-Year-Old Boy with Cricket Stump in Roorkee Village
A tragic incident unfolded in a village near Roorkee on Monday evening when a 17-year-old boy allegedly killed a 12-year-old during a cricket match. The altercation escalated to a fatal attack where the teenager struck the younger boy on the head with a cricket stump following a dispute. The victim, identified as Bhanu, succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital the next day, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Gangnahar police in Haridwar have registered a case under BNS section 103, which pertains to punishment for murder, against the juvenile based on a formal complaint lodged by the victim's father. The accused will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further legal proceedings. Since the matter involves a minor, authorities are handling it with strict adherence to legal protocols.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) S C Suyal stated, "The hospital informed us about the death. Our team took custody of the body and conducted a post-mortem examination on Tuesday." The post-mortem report confirmed that severe head injury leading to internal bleeding was the cause of death, corroborating the initial accounts of the incident.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
According to police investigations, a group of minors were playing cricket at Ambedkar Park when an argument broke out between the two boys. During the heated altercation, the 17-year-old allegedly hit Bhanu on the head with a cricket stump. Bhanu collapsed immediately at the spot but managed to reach his home, which was located close to the park.
He narrated the incident to his family before collapsing again. His relatives rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he died during treatment the following day. The swift response from his family and medical personnel could not save him from the fatal injuries sustained in the attack.
Ongoing Investigation and Evidence Collection
Police have collected CCTV footage from the vicinity and examined other physical evidence to establish the precise sequence of events. SP Suyal added, "Since the matter involves a minor, further action will be taken in accordance with legal procedures after completion of the investigation." Authorities are meticulously piecing together the details to ensure a thorough and fair investigation.
