Roorkee: 20-Year-Old Man Booked Under POCSO Act for Alleged Assault on 13-Year-Old Girl

Police in Laksar, Roorkee, have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a 20-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl from the same village. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting grave concerns over child safety and mental health.

Girl Attempts Suicide After Alleged Assault

Disturbed by the traumatic event, the girl allegedly tried to end her life by consuming a household sanitation chemical. She is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the city, where her condition is being closely monitored. Police have confirmed that the case remains under active investigation, with further action pending the receipt of the girl's detailed medical report.

Details of the Alleged Incident

The victim is an eighth-grade student at the village school, and the accused hails from the same locality. According to preliminary reports, the girl had been subjected to regular harassment by the accused. On Wednesday, while returning home from school, the accused allegedly took her to his house and assaulted her. At the time of the incident, the accused's family members were not present at home, which facilitated the alleged crime.

After reaching her own home, the girl narrated the entire harrowing ordeal to her mother. Overwhelmed by distress, she then consumed a toilet-cleaning chemical in an apparent suicide attempt. "She consumed the chemical in a suicide attempt," said a relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, underscoring the severe emotional impact of the assault.

Police Investigation and Community Context

Police officials have confirmed that a formal case was registered following a complaint lodged by the victim's mother. The girl underwent a medical examination as part of the investigative process. SHO Laksar, Pravin Koshyari, stated, "Both the victim and the accused belong to the same community. There was some prior interaction between them." This detail adds a layer of complexity to the case, as it involves individuals from a shared social background.

The authorities are diligently working to gather all necessary evidence and statements to ensure a thorough investigation. The community is urged to cooperate with law enforcement to bring justice to the victim and prevent such incidents in the future.
