Ranchi Police Intensifies Anti-Drug Campaign, Targets Hotspots

Ranchi: The police will further intensify operations against drug abuse in Ranchi, with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Ranjan instructing his subordinates to launch a proactive campaign against drug peddlers and their associates.

During a review meeting on Sunday evening, the SSP directed that police stations should conduct joint operations against drug sales and purchases. He emphasized the need to identify the drug nexus and hotspots. He also asked Superintendents of Police (SPs) to submit proposals for imposing the Crime Control Act against persons accused under the NDPS Act.

Police said the intensified campaign will begin in police stations with a history of large-scale arrests of criminals, including Kotwali, Sukhdevnagar, Dhurwa, and Jagannathpur.

A new element of the campaign will be frequent operations at hotspots without waiting for inputs. Additionally, police will conduct house searches of suspicious persons for drug recovery.

“The campaign will be carried out in public places, temples, sports grounds, parks, and other areas to prevent gatherings of addicts. Strict vigilance will be maintained on persons accused under the NDPS Act who are out on bail. All Superintendents of Police must supervise the drive on a daily basis,” the SSP said.

Cannabis, opium, brown sugar, heroin, codeine-based cough syrup, and tablets are on sale in the state, particularly in urban areas like Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Seraikela.
