Police in Rampur have initiated legal action against a woman accused of fraudulently obtaining a government teaching position by hiding her Pakistani citizenship. The case, registered at the Azim Nagar police station, stems from a formal complaint lodged by the Basic Education Department.
Forgery and Concealed Nationality Uncovered
An internal departmental probe revealed that the accused, identified as Mahira Akhtar, also known as Farzana, allegedly used counterfeit documents to secure employment. She was working as a primary school teacher in Kumhariya village. Additional Superintendent of Police Anurag Singh stated that their investigation confirmed she procured the job with a fake residence certificate while being a Pakistani national.
The police have invoked several serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against her, including sections 318(4), 336, 338, and 340, pertaining to charges of cheating and forgery.
A Cross-Border Marital History
Investigators outlined a complex personal history behind the case. According to police findings, Mahira Akhtar married a Pakistani national in 1979 and subsequently acquired Pakistani citizenship. Following a divorce, she reportedly returned to India around 1985 on a Pakistani passport and then married a local man from Rampur.
It was around this period that she is alleged to have joined the Basic Education Department, presenting herself as an Indian citizen throughout her employment.
Employment Terminated, Probe Ongoing
Upon discovery of her true nationality, the Basic Education Department first suspended and then terminated her services. The police are currently deepening their investigation, collecting further evidence related to the forgery and the circumstances of her employment.
No arrests have been made so far, but authorities are actively pursuing the case. This incident has raised questions about verification processes within government hiring mechanisms for sensitive positions.
