Rajkot Businessman Files Rs 3 Crore Fraud Case Against Ahmedabad Couple
A significant case of alleged investment fraud, involving funds exceeding Rs 3 crore, has been registered at the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police station in Rajkot. The complaint was lodged by a local businessman, leading to a formal investigation into the matter.
Details of the Complaint and Accused
Based on the complaint filed by Nilesh Turkhia, aged 46, the police have registered an offence against an Ahmedabad-based couple. The case has been filed under Sections 316(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), highlighting the serious nature of the allegations.
In 2022, Turkhia initiated a partnership firm with one of the accused individuals. This firm operated from the Bhaktinagar Station Plot area in Rajkot and specialized in providing a range of software and communication-related services. These services included messaging platforms, web design, web hosting, networking solutions, and consultancy. The accused partner was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the business.
Investment and Alleged Misappropriation
Turkhia invested a substantial amount of Rs 1.29 crore into the partnership firm. Subsequently, Kevin Mistry joined as a partner to focus on business development and contributed over Rs 1.70 crore. Collectively, the two partners invested more than Rs 3 crore in the venture, aiming to foster growth and expansion.
In his formal complaint, Turkhia alleged that instead of utilizing these funds for the intended business purposes, the couple engaged in fraudulent activities. It is claimed that they started a separate firm without informing Turkhia and Mistry. Furthermore, they allegedly transferred critical company data to this new entity. Additional allegations include sharing this data with a Dubai-based company, where an associate of the accused was appointed as a director, raising concerns about data security and financial integrity.
Investigation Underway
The economic offences wing has commenced a thorough investigation into the case. Officials are actively seeking bank statements and other financial records to verify the transactions and trace the movement of the invested funds. This step is crucial to uncovering the full extent of the alleged fraud and ensuring accountability.
The case underscores the importance of due diligence in business partnerships and highlights the legal recourse available under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for victims of financial crimes. As the investigation progresses, further details are expected to emerge regarding the specifics of the alleged misappropriation and the actions of the accused couple.
