Tragic Construction Accident Claims Lives of Labourer Couple in Raichur

A devastating incident unfolded in Raichur district on Monday, resulting in the deaths of a couple employed as construction labourers. The tragedy occurred in Yalagatta village, located within the jurisdiction of the Hatti police station.

Details of the Deceased and Incident

The victims have been identified as Dyamappa, aged 45, and his wife Shivamma, aged 38. They were residents of Hatti town in Lingasuguru taluk, Raichur district. The couple had been working for several months at a house under construction, owned by Raddeppa Hadapad of Yalagatta village.

On the fateful day, they were engaged in elevation work, applying a concrete mixture to the structure. Tragically, the building could not withstand the weight of the wet concrete, leading to a sudden and catastrophic collapse that buried the couple under the debris.

Rescue Efforts and Police Action

Other labourers present at the site immediately rushed to assist, attempting to rescue Dyamappa and Shivamma from the rubble. Despite their frantic efforts, they were unable to save the couple, who succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Following the incident, Hatti police officials visited the location to conduct an investigation. An FIR has been registered against the house owner, Raddeppa Hadapad, and the construction contractor, Madevappa, highlighting potential negligence in safety protocols. The case underscores ongoing concerns about workplace safety in the construction sector, particularly for daily wage labourers.
