Punjab Police Avert Imminent Terror Attack in Amritsar, Arrest BKI Operative
The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has successfully dismantled a terror module linked to the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), according to an announcement by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday. This operation led to the arrest of one operative and the recovery of a hand grenade, a pistol, and ammunition, marking a significant breakthrough in counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
Security Threat Neutralized Ahead of Republic Day
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized that this operation has averted an imminent attack on a security establishment, coming just ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. In a post on X, he stated, "An imminent attack on a security establishment has been successfully averted. This operation comes just ahead of the Republic Day celebrations." The timing of this bust underscores the heightened vigilance and proactive measures taken by Punjab Police to ensure public safety during national events.
Foreign-Based Handlers Identified in Investigation
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested suspect was acting on the directions of foreign-based handlers, identified as Nishan Jaurrian, Adesh Jamarai, and Simma Deol. Police officials noted that this network highlights the cross-border nature of the threat, with operatives receiving instructions from abroad to carry out attacks within India. An FIR has been registered in connection with the case, paving the way for further legal proceedings and deeper probes into the module's activities.
Recovered Weapons and Ongoing Security Measures
The recovery of a hand grenade, a pistol, and ammunition from the operative points to a well-armed and potentially dangerous plot. Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to trace any remaining links and prevent similar threats. This operation by the SSOC in Amritsar is part of a broader strategy to combat terrorism in Punjab, with police units remaining on high alert to safeguard against any disruptions during the upcoming Republic Day festivities.
