The Punjab Police has dismantled a gangster module operating under the direction of foreign-based handlers, arresting three operatives and recovering three foreign-made sophisticated pistols along with ammunition, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Sunday.
Coordinated Operation Yields Results
The operation was carried out by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, and Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, in coordination with a central agency, according to a post on X by DGP Yadav. He described it as a breakthrough against organised crime and gangster networks.
An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar, and investigations are ongoing, the DGP added.
Accused Acted on Foreign Handlers' Directions
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were acting on the instructions of foreign-based gangsters involved in gang wars, extortion, and other disruptive activities in Punjab. The accused were transporting consignments of weapons and carrying out criminal activities at the behest of their handlers abroad.
The arrestees are also linked to a murder case registered in Amritsar and an attempted murder case in Batala, according to the police.
Ongoing Probe
Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the network and identify other operatives, Yadav said. The seizure of three foreign-made sophisticated pistols underscores the cross-border nexus of the module.
