Sevak Singh, a 23-year-old resident of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, was arrested in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district on suspicion of sharing sensitive information with Pakistan-based ISI operatives. The arrest occurred during a tenant verification drive in Akaltara town, according to Superintendent of Police Vijay Pandey.
Arrest Details
Singh was taken into custody after police, conducting routine checks on rented accommodations, grew suspicious of his presence near Minimata Chowk. He was living in a rented house, and his activities raised red flags during verification. A case has been registered at Akaltara police station.
Digital Evidence and Communications
Police examination of Singh's mobile phone revealed WhatsApp chats, video call records, call recordings, and other digital material indicating communication with individuals linked to Pakistan-based ISI networks. The official stated, "Investigators suspect the accused may have shared information related to sensitive locations, prominent people, vehicles and other details with foreign contacts. The authenticity and extent of such information are being verified."
Weapons Supply Discussions
During the investigation, discussions about weapons supply through cross-border channels surfaced. Singh is alleged to have been in touch with people linked to a Pakistan-backed ISI network. The police are working to determine the full scope of his activities and any associates.
Ongoing Investigation
Singh's mobile phone has been sent for forensic examination. Analysis of digital evidence and contact networks is under way. An investigation is ongoing to identify Singh's contacts, possible associates, and the extent of the alleged network, Pandey added.
