A Punjab BJP official has sought police protection after receiving a death threat and a Rs 5 crore extortion demand delivered to his house in a suspicious package.

Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, a member of the Social Justice and Empowerment Board and the BJP's district in-charge for Malerkotla, filed a formal complaint with the Ludhiana police on Friday. He discovered the threat upon returning to his home in the Dugri area, where someone had hung a plastic bottle from his front gate.

Contents of the Package

The package included an extortion letter demanding Rs 5 crore and threatening Bindra's life. Additionally, a small bottle containing a substance that smelled of petrol and was feared to be flammable or hazardous was found. Officers at the Dugri police station have seized the letter and the bottle for forensic analysis.
