Pune Robbery: Rs 7.9 Lakh Snatched from Driver

In a brazen daylight robbery, two unidentified men on a motorcycle snatched a bag containing a substantial sum of Rs 7.9 lakh from a driver working for a transport operator near Yavat, approximately 42 kilometers from Pune. The alarming incident unfolded on Friday evening, sending shockwaves through the local community and prompting an immediate police response.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Theft

According to details provided by the Yavat police, the victim, a driver employed by a transport operator, was entrusted with a critical financial task. His owner had given him Rs 3 lakh to deposit at a bank located in Varvand village within Daund taluka. The driver proceeded to the bank on his two-wheeler and successfully completed this initial deposit.

Unexpected Turn of Events

While at the bank, the driver awaited the arrival of the owner's relative, who was bringing an additional Rs 11.9 lakh in cash. Upon the relative's arrival, the driver deposited a further Rs 4 lakh at the bank. He was then instructed to personally deliver the remaining amount of Rs 7.9 lakh directly to the owner at the transport operator's office situated in Chaufula village.

As the driver prepared to leave the bank premises, he encountered an unforeseen setback. He discovered that the front tyre of his motorcycle had been punctured. Carrying the significant cash amount, the driver decided to proceed cautiously to a nearby puncture repair shop to address the issue.

The Snatching Incident

In a moment of vulnerability, the driver placed the bag containing the Rs 7.9 lakh on the fuel tank of his motorcycle and began riding slowly towards the repair shop. It was at this precise moment that two men on another motorcycle approached him aggressively. They forced him to stop, and the pillion rider swiftly snatched the bag of cash before both perpetrators fled the scene on their vehicle, disappearing into the vicinity.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

The Yavat police have registered a formal case under Section 309 (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unknown assailants. An officer from the Pune Rural police elaborated on the investigation's progress, stating that the victim provided a detailed description of the duo in his official complaint.

"We have deployed multiple teams and fanned out our resources to trace and apprehend the suspects," the officer emphasized. The police are actively pursuing all available leads and reviewing local surveillance footage to identify the motorcycle and the individuals involved in this audacious crime.
