Pune Ragpicker Arrested for Brutal Murder of Live-in Partner in Mhalunge

Police in Pune arrested a 30-year-old ragpicker from the Mhalunge area on Saturday. The man faces charges for bludgeoning his live-in partner to death in the early morning hours.

Violent Assault Over Money Dispute

Officers from the Bavdhan police station reported the incident. The accused and the 32-year-old victim lived together after her husband passed away. Both worked as ragpickers to earn their living.

A dispute erupted late Friday night. The couple argued about sharing money they earned from selling scrap materials. The argument turned violent quickly.

The accused started abusing his partner. He then attacked her with a stick. He struck her repeatedly on the head, neck, and stomach. When she fell to the ground, he picked up a large stone. He used the stone to bludgeon her to death.

Neighbor Injured While Trying to Intervene

A neighbor heard the commotion and rushed to help. The neighbor tried to stop the man from killing his partner. The accused turned his rage on the neighbor as well.

He assaulted the neighbor with the stick. The attack caused fractures in the neighbor's fingers. Police confirmed the injuries in their statement.

Murder Charges Filed Under New Law

Bavdhan police officials took the accused into custody. They charged him under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This section deals specifically with murder.

The new BNS law replaced the older Indian Penal Code. The arrest highlights the first major application of this section in a local Pune case. Police continue their investigation into the tragic event.
