Pune Police Case: Six Channels Accused of PAT III Paper Leak

Pune Police Launch Investigation into PAT III Exam Paper Leak on Social Media

In a significant development concerning academic integrity, the Vishrambaug police in Pune have officially registered a case on Tuesday against the operators of six channels on a prominent video-sharing platform. The charges stem from the alleged circulation of question papers for the Periodic Assessment Test (PAT) III on social media platforms before the scheduled examinations were conducted.

Details of the Examination and Alleged Breach

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is responsible for conducting the PAT III exams, which are designed to evaluate the academic capabilities and subject aptitude of school students across Maharashtra. According to the official examination schedule, the Marathi paper was slated for April 11, followed by mathematics on April 15, and English on April 22.

An officer from the Vishrambaug police station provided crucial insights into the case. "As per the complaint filed by SCERT, the PAT III exams assess students' proficiency in core subjects including Marathi, English, and mathematics," the officer stated. "The question papers are meticulously prepared by SCERT and printed at a private press located in Pune. Subsequently, they are distributed confidentially to various districts across the state."

Investigation Uncovers Widespread Circulation

The investigation revealed a disturbing pattern: question papers for all three subjects—Marathi, mathematics, and English—had been widely circulated on six different social media channels even before the respective exam dates. This premature dissemination potentially compromises the fairness and security of the assessment process, raising serious concerns about examination malpractices.

Inspector Arun Ghodke of the Vishrambaug police emphasized the scope of the ongoing probe. "We are thoroughly investigating how the question papers were leaked, whether financial transactions were involved in the leak, and if additional individuals are part of this illicit racket," Ghodke explained. The case has been registered under pertinent sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act as well as the Information Technology Act.

Historical Context of Similar Incidents

This incident is not an isolated occurrence. Similar cases of question paper leaks through social media channels have been reported on two previous occasions. In those instances, legal action was taken against a teacher and a minor, with chargesheets formally filed in court. The recurrence of such breaches underscores the persistent challenges in safeguarding examination materials in the digital age.

The police are now intensifying their efforts to trace the origins of the leak, identify all parties involved, and implement measures to prevent future violations. The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for examination security protocols and the legal framework governing academic assessments in Maharashtra.
