Pune Real Estate Agent Arrested for Allegedly Smothering Wife in Khadki Apartment

The Khadki police in Pune have made a significant arrest in a tragic domestic violence case. On Wednesday, authorities took into custody a 56-year-old real estate agent for the alleged murder of his 53-year-old wife. The incident occurred late Tuesday night at their apartment located in the Chikhalwadi locality of Khadki.

Police Investigation Reveals Disturbing Details

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Chilumula Rajnikanth, the accused initially contemplated suicide before deciding to kill his wife. However, he did not follow through with taking his own life. The DCP stated that the man later contacted the police control room around 8:30 AM on Wednesday to report the murder himself.

The Khadki police subsequently registered a suo motu case of murder against the real estate agent, initiating formal legal proceedings based on their own motion rather than waiting for a formal complaint.

Background of the Couple and Alleged Motives

This was the second marriage for both individuals, who had tied the knot in 2011. The couple did not have any children together, which police identified as a significant factor in the tragedy. The accused reportedly told investigators that his wife had been struggling with depression over their childlessness.

Compounding their personal difficulties, the real estate agent was facing severe financial challenges. Business losses had left him with debts exceeding Rs 4 crore, creating substantial economic pressure on the household.

The Final Argument and Alleged Crime

Police revealed additional tensions in the relationship. The accused reportedly suspected his wife of meeting with her former husband, which had become a source of ongoing unhappiness for him.

On Tuesday night, the couple engaged in an argument. After his wife had fallen asleep, the real estate agent allegedly picked up a pillow and smothered her to death. The DCP explained that the man's stated reasoning was particularly disturbing: distressed by their combined problems, he had contemplated suicide but was concerned about leaving his depressed wife behind, so he decided to kill her first.

The case continues to develop as investigators gather more evidence and prepare for legal proceedings. This tragic incident highlights the devastating consequences that can result from the intersection of mental health struggles, financial pressures, and relationship conflicts.
