Pune Security Guard Orchestrates Elaborate Fake Abduction for Ransom Money

In a bizarre case of self-inflicted criminality, the Baner Police in Pune have apprehended a 21-year-old private security guard for masterminding his own kidnapping and demanding a hefty ransom from his unsuspecting family. The accused, identified as Manish Kumar, originally from Prayagraj, was arrested on Sunday after a detailed investigation exposed his intricate plot to secure Rs 2 lakh for personal expenses.

The Complaint and Initial Investigation

The case unraveled when Kumar's elder brother approached the Baner police station on February 11, filing a formal complaint. He reported that his younger brother had been abducted by unidentified individuals on February 9 and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh for his safe release. Senior Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant of the Baner police detailed the sequence of events to the media.

"Our team immediately launched a thorough investigation into the alleged abduction," stated Inspector Sawant. "We began by collecting and scrutinizing CCTV footage from the vicinity where the incident was reported to have occurred."

Unraveling the Hoax Through Digital Evidence

The collected surveillance footage provided the first major breakthrough. Contrary to the kidnapping narrative, the footage clearly showed Manish Kumar walking alone and voluntarily boarding an autorickshaw. Police investigators meticulously tracked the autorickshaw's route, which led them to a housing society located in the Mhalunge area of Pune.

Further investigation revealed that Kumar had spent two days hiding in the room of a fellow security guard within that housing society. During this period, he repeatedly contacted his family in Chitrakoot, using a disguised voice to pose as one of his own captors, thereby perpetuating the ransom demand.

A Multi-City Journey and Final Apprehension

From his hideout in Mhalunge, Kumar then embarked on a journey to Ahmedabad, where he remained for a couple of days. His trail did not end there; he subsequently traveled to his hometown of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The Baner police team, demonstrating persistent investigative work, successfully tracked his movements and located him in Prayagraj.

"Our team coordinated and brought him back to Pune for detailed questioning," Inspector Sawant explained. "Upon interrogation, he confessed to the entire scheme. He admitted that he needed a significant amount of money for personal use and saw staging his own abduction as a way to obtain it from his family."

The accused, who was employed as a security guard at a housing society in Baner, now faces serious legal consequences for his actions. This case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which individuals may go to resolve personal financial crises, ultimately leading to criminal charges and familial betrayal.
