Pune Gold Theft: Man Steals Jewellery Worth Rs 1.91 Lakh Using Keys from Shoe Rack

In a startling incident that highlights security lapses, an unidentified man stole gold and silver jewellery valued at Rs 1.91 lakh from a residential flat in Pune's Dhayari area on Monday. The theft was executed after the accused allegedly found the house keys conveniently placed in a shoe rack outside the entrance, exploiting a common but risky habit of the residents.

Details of the Theft Incident

The theft occurred between 10 am and 6:45 pm on Monday, while the family was away from their home in a housing society in Dhayari. A 26-year-old woman, who works with a private firm and is pursuing higher studies, lodged a formal complaint with the Nanded City police on Tuesday. According to police reports, she is married but currently resides with her parents in the flat.

Senior Inspector Atul Bhos of the Nanded City police provided insights into the case, stating, "The family had a habitual practice of keeping the house keys in the shoe rack after locking the door. The accused took advantage of this by retrieving the keys, unlocking the door, stealing the valuables, and then locking the house again before leaving without raising any suspicion."

Police Investigation and Findings

Upon receiving the complaint, police immediately examined CCTV footage from the vicinity of the housing society. The footage revealed an individual, unknown to the residents, entering the society during the time frame of the theft. Inspector Bhos added, "We thoroughly checked for any potential involvement of local residents but found no evidence linking them to the crime. It appears the accused specifically searched the shoe rack, found the keys, and seized the opportunity to commit the theft."

The police are actively pursuing leads based on the CCTV evidence and have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the suspect. This incident serves as a stark reminder for residents to adopt more secure practices for key storage to prevent such opportunistic crimes.
