Pune Bus Spat Incident Leads to Violent Assault, Four Men Charged

The South Mahalunge police in Pune have officially registered a criminal case against four individuals following a violent altercation that occurred on Friday. The incident stemmed from an allegation that a private company employee spat from a moving bus, leading to a severe physical assault.

Details of the Assault and Injuries

The attack took place at Nighoje along the Mahalunge-Talawade Road. According to police reports, the victim, an employee of a private company, sustained significant injuries to his head, face, and back. He has since filed a formal complaint with the South Mahalunge police station, detailing the events that unfolded.

In his complaint, the victim identified one of the three primary attackers as a fellow employee from the same company. This connection has added a layer of complexity to the case, suggesting possible internal workplace tensions or prior disputes.

Legal Charges Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The trio of assailants has been charged under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), India's updated penal code. The charges include:

  • Section 115: Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.
  • Section 118: Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by means of dangerous weapons or other means.

These sections indicate the serious nature of the assault, as they pertain to injuries inflicted with blunt objects and belts, which were reportedly used during the attack.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Assault

An officer from the South Mahalunge police provided a detailed account of the incident. On Friday evening, the complainant was returning home in his company's bus after completing his second shift. As the bus reached Nighoje, three men forcibly stopped the vehicle.

"The trio started alleging that one of the workers from the bus spat out of the window and it landed on them. While two of them were questioning the workers, the victim, who was sitting in the driver's cabin, got up to enquire about the matter. The trio mistakenly thought the victim was the one who spat and demanded he come down," the officer explained.

Upon exiting the bus, the victim recognized his coworker among the group. "The trio then assaulted the victim with a blunt object and their belts," the officer stated. After the attack, the accused fled the scene in a vehicle.

Police Investigation and Search for Accused

The South Mahalunge police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter. "We are actively searching for the accused individuals," the officer confirmed, emphasizing their commitment to apprehending those responsible. The involvement of a company employee among the attackers has prompted police to look into potential motives beyond the initial spat allegation, including possible personal or professional grievances.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about public safety and road rage incidents in urban areas like Pune. Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
