Tragic Accident on Katraj-Dehu Road Claims Life of Minitruck Helper

A devastating road accident on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass in Pune has resulted in one fatality and severe injuries to another individual. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, around 2.40 am, when a dumper collided with a minitruck, leading to catastrophic consequences.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The minitruck was being driven by the helper, 28-year-old Mayur Ghorpade from Wadgaon Dhayari, while the actual driver, Somnath Dhake (35), also from Wadgaon Dhayari, was seated in the co-driver's position. The vehicle was transporting 100 boxes of drinking water bottles from Kamshet to Katraj for delivery when the tragedy struck.

According to officers from the Hinjewadi police, the dumper rammed into the minitruck from the rear near Tathawade. The impact caused Ghorpade to lose control of the wheel, resulting in the vehicle overturning. Ghorpade sustained severe head injuries and lost consciousness immediately, while Dhake suffered injuries to his head and legs.

Immediate Aftermath and Police Action

Local residents rushed to the scene and transported both victims to a nearby hospital. Tragically, doctors pronounced Mayur Ghorpade dead upon arrival. Somnath Dhake is currently undergoing medical treatment for his injuries.

The Hinjewadi police have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the dumper driver. Investigations revealed that the driver hails from Giridih district in Jharkhand and has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Broader Implications and Safety Concerns

This accident highlights several critical issues:
