Prayagraj Municipal Official Caught Accepting Bribe in Property Mutation Case
In a significant crackdown on corruption, the state anti-corruption bureau has arrested a revenue official from the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The incident occurred on Wednesday in connection with a property mutation case, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat graft in government services.
Details of the Arrest
The accused, identified as Anoop Chandra Mishra, served as a Tax Collector in Zone 6 (Khuldabad) of the PMC. He was apprehended by a vigilance trap team on Wednesday afternoon near Ganga Bhojanalaya in Transport Nagar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dhoomanganj police station. The arrest was made as Mishra was caught red-handed accepting the illicit payment.
Background of the Complaint
The action stemmed from a complaint filed on Tuesday by Rajkumar Yadav, a resident of Mirapatti near Rail Gaon Colony in Prayagraj. Yadav, originally from Dhamsera village in Kaushambi district, alleged that a property registered in his mother Phoolkali Devi's name on October 8, 2024, was pending mutation with the Municipal Corporation. When Yadav inquired about the status, Mishra reportedly demanded Rs 10,000 to submit a favorable report for processing the mutation.
Unwilling to comply with the bribe demand, Yadav approached the Vigilance Establishment to seek legal recourse. After conducting a discreet verification of the complaint, authorities deemed the case suitable for a trap operation, leading to the coordinated arrest.
Legal Proceedings and Public Appeal
Following the arrest, legal proceedings have been initiated against Anoop Chandra Mishra under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Superintendent of Police for the Vigilance Establishment in the Prayagraj Sector has urged the public to report any instances of bribery demands by government officials or employees.
Citizens are encouraged to contact the Vigilance helpline numbers 9454404859 or 9454401866 to lodge complaints for prompt action. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and public cooperation in eradicating corruption from administrative processes.
