Prayagraj Police Apprehend Three Suspects, Confiscate Illegal Firearms in Puramufti
In a significant crackdown on illegal arms, the Puramufti police in Prayagraj successfully arrested three individuals and recovered an unlicensed country-made pistol along with live ammunition on Thursday. The operation was conducted based on credible intelligence received by the authorities.
Details of the Arrest and Recovery
The accused persons have been identified as Arshad, aged 39, Mohammad Sadan, 28, and Mohammad Ashraf, also 28. All three are residents of Umri village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Puramufti police station. The arrests were made in the vicinity of the Home Guard training centre located at Bharetha.
During a thorough search of the suspects, law enforcement officials discovered and seized one .315 bore country-made pistol. Additionally, they recovered one live cartridge of .315 bore and seven live cartridges of .12 bore from their possession. This recovery highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in the region.
Legal Action and Criminal Backgrounds
Following the seizure, a formal case has been registered under the stringent provisions of the Arms Act at the Puramufti police station, which operates under the Prayagraj Commissionerate. Police officials have confirmed that all three individuals have prior criminal records, indicating a pattern of unlawful activities.
Arshad has previously been implicated in serious offences, including cases related to rioting and attempt to murder. These charges were filed at the Dhoomanganj and Airport police stations, underscoring his involvement in violent crimes.
Mohammad Sadan faces allegations under the Explosive Substances Act and is also named in a murder charge registered in 2024 at the Puramufti police station. This suggests a history of dangerous and life-threatening actions.
Mohammad Ashraf was earlier booked under the provisions of the Cow Slaughter Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the Varanasi commissionerate. His record points to involvement in offences that violate both specific animal protection laws and general criminal statutes.
The arrests and subsequent legal proceedings demonstrate the proactive measures taken by the Prayagraj police to enhance public safety and enforce the law against individuals with established criminal backgrounds. This operation serves as a reminder of the continuous vigilance required to combat illegal arms trade and related criminal activities in the area.
