Hazaribag Power Department Staffers Execute Daring Nighttime Kitten Rescue
In a heartwarming display of courage and compassion, two power department employees in Hazaribag district executed a daring rescue operation to save a one-month-old kitten stranded atop a nearly 50-foot-high electric pole. The incident occurred in the Kolghatti area of ward number 2 late on Wednesday night, drawing attention to the heroic efforts of Shahid Alam (27) and Wasim Akram (28).
Emergency Call Sparks Immediate Response
The two staffers, who were on night duty, received an urgent call around 10 pm informing them about a kitten that had climbed the towering electric pole to escape stray dogs. The situation was particularly dangerous as the frightened animal was positioned dangerously close to live wires, creating a serious risk of electrocution.
"We immediately rushed to the spot and saw the kitten stuck near the live line," recounted Shahid Alam. "The first step was to ensure safety, so we informed the Sindoor substation and got the power supply shut down before starting the rescue operation."
Challenging Rescue Operation in Complete Darkness
With the power supply safely disconnected, the real challenge began. Wasim Akram described how Shahid used a bamboo ladder to ascend the towering pole, illuminated only by a torch provided by the electricity department. The darkness added to the difficulty of the operation, requiring extreme caution at every step.
"The kitten was extremely frightened and initially did not respond," explained Wasim. "Whenever Shahid tried to catch it, it clung tightly to the pole with its front legs, making the rescue even more challenging."
Successful Rescue After Thirty Minutes of Effort
After nearly half an hour of careful maneuvering and patient coaxing, Shahid successfully managed to secure the terrified kitten and bring it safely down to the ground. The successful rescue brought immense relief to the local residents who had gathered at the spot, witnessing the entire operation unfold.
Shahid Alam, a resident of Banha village in Katkamdag block, and Wasim Akram, who lives in Khirgaon in the city, expressed their motivation for undertaking the risky operation. Both emphasized their sense of duty toward saving lives, regardless of the circumstances.
Spiritual Motivation During Holy Month
The timing of the rescue held special significance for the two men, who are currently observing Roza during the holy month of Ramzan. They explained how their religious beliefs influenced their decision to help the distressed animal.
"Saving a life is our duty," the duo stated. "It is the holy month of Ramzan and we are observing Roza. Helping a living being from distress is also a service to Allah."
Community Recognition and Praise
The heroic act received immediate recognition from local authorities, with Ward No. 2 councillor Nikhat Yasmin praising the two power department employees for their exemplary behavior. Her comments highlighted the broader significance of their actions within the community context.
"What the two have done is truly commendable," said Councillor Yasmin. "At a time when people often hesitate to help even fellow humans, they have set an example by saving the life of a tiny creature."
The successful rescue operation demonstrates how compassion and professional duty can combine to create positive outcomes, even in the most challenging circumstances. The story has resonated throughout Hazaribag district, serving as an inspiring example of humanity and courage in everyday life.
