Mysterious Power Cut at Deceased Official's Home Raises Security Fears in Amritsar

A mysterious and deliberate power outage at the residence of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the late district manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, has sparked fresh and serious concerns about the security of his bereaved family in Amritsar. The incident occurred shortly after Randhawa died by suicide, with the family alleging intentional tampering with the electricity supply and expressing heightened fears for their safety.

Family Alleges Deliberate Tampering and Security Lapses

Speaking to mediapersons, Varinder Pal, a member of the bereaved family, revealed that the electricity supply went off while police officials were present in the house to record statements related to the suicide case. Initially, the family assumed it was a routine power cut or a technical fault. However, when electricity was restored in neighbouring houses late at night, and their home remained without power, suspicions grew that something was amiss.

An electrician was promptly called to investigate, and it was discovered that the wires leading from the electricity meter to the house had been deliberately cut. The family immediately informed the police about this alarming finding, raising questions about the effectiveness of security measures in place.

CCTV Footage and Police Response

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough scan of CCTV footage from the surrounding area. According to the family, the footage allegedly showed two unidentified persons carrying out the act of cutting the wires before fleeing the scene. This evidence has led the family to term the incident a "well-planned attempt to intimidate" them, casting doubt on their safety despite the presence of law enforcement.

In response, the police have stepped up security outside the residence, deploying additional personnel to monitor the area. However, the family maintains that they continue to feel unsafe and vulnerable, highlighting a perceived gap in protection.

Demands for CBI Probe and Background of the Case

The family has demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the suicide case to ensure the truth comes out and justice is served. This call for an independent investigation stems from the circumstances surrounding Randhawa's death. He ended his life after allegedly being subjected to mental harassment and torture at the hands of former transport minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and his personal assistant Dilbagh Singh.

The mysterious power cut has intensified concerns about potential ongoing threats or intimidation tactics aimed at the family, complicating an already tragic situation. As investigations continue, the incident underscores broader issues of security and accountability in sensitive cases involving public officials.
