Police Launch Major Crackdown in Ganjam and Gajapati Districts

Police authorities in Ganjam and Gajapati districts executed a significant pre-festival operation on Tuesday night. The surprise raids, conducted under the banner of 'Operation Strike', targeted illegal activities on the eve of Makar Sankranti. Law enforcement officials seized substantial quantities of country liquor and multiple firearms during the coordinated action.

Substantial Seizures and Arrests Made

Subhendu Patra, the Superintendent of Police for Ganjam district, provided detailed information about the operation's outcomes. Police confiscated a 7 mm pistol along with two SBML country-made guns from various locations. Officers also recovered three live ammunition rounds during the raids.

Authorities arrested at least four individuals in connection with these firearm seizures. The police operation extended beyond weapons to include gambling activities. Law enforcement registered six separate gambling cases during the night-long action.

Officers seized Rs 87,590 in cash from gambling operations. They also confiscated fifteen mobile phones and three motorcycles during the raids. Police issued formal notices to thirty-five people involved in various illegal activities.

Liquor Manufacturing Units Targeted

The operation specifically targeted illegal country liquor manufacturing units across both districts. Police seized approximately 2,247 litres of country liquor from these facilities. Authorities also confiscated twenty kilograms of jaggery and twenty-five kilograms of urea used in liquor production.

Law enforcement took legal action against thirty-nine people involved in these illegal manufacturing operations. The SP confirmed that all actions followed proper legal procedures and protocols.

Additional Contraband Seized

Police made additional significant seizures during the operation. Officers confiscated more than twenty kilograms of ganja from various locations. Authorities arrested two individuals in connection with these drug seizures.

The operation included extensive vehicle checks along national highways. Police examined around 156 vehicles during the verification process. Officers recovered one stolen scooty during these vehicle inspections.

Comprehensive Search Operations Conducted

Police conducted thorough searches of multiple establishments across both districts. Authorities examined nine hostels and lodges in Ganjam district during the operation. Similar searches occurred in Gajapati district as part of the coordinated effort.

In Ganjam district, police arrested forty-seven individuals against whom pending warrants existed. Officers apprehended these individuals from various locations throughout the district.

Gajapati District Operations

Jatindra Panda, the Superintendent of Police for Gajapati district, provided details about operations in his jurisdiction. Police seized twenty-five vehicles during checks for alleged drunk driving. Authorities registered cases against the riders of these vehicles.

Officers confiscated approximately 148 litres of country liquor in Gajapati district. Police arrested eleven people in connection with these liquor seizures. The SP confirmed that hostel and lodge searches occurred across Gajapati district as well.

The comprehensive 'Operation Strike' demonstrated police commitment to maintaining law and order during the festival period. Authorities focused on preventing illegal activities that typically increase during festive seasons.
