A police operation to arrest a prime suspect in an attempted murder case turned violent in a Morena village, leading to a constable being shot and the subsequent mass exodus of the accused and their families. The incident has left the village of Janakpur completely deserted, with a large police force now conducting extensive search operations.
Violent Confrontation During Arrest Attempt
The chain of events began on Thursday evening when a six-member police team from the Maharajpura police station in Gwalior arrived at Janakpur village. Their mission was to apprehend Hardu, also known as Saurabh Gurjar, who is the main accused in an attempt-to-murder case dated November 2. The team had entered the village without informing the local Morena police authorities.
Officers successfully detained the accused. However, the situation escalated rapidly when villagers allegedly surrounded the police team and opened fire. In the ensuing confrontation, a police constable sustained gunshot injuries. Despite the attack, the Gwalior police team managed to extricate themselves from the hostile situation and escape from the village.
Deserted Village and Massive Police Deployment
By Friday, the scene at Janakpur village had transformed dramatically. Responding to the previous day's violence, authorities deployed a massive police contingent for a follow-up raid. This force included 70 to 80 police personnel, a Vajra anti-riot vehicle, and more than 15 police vehicles.
To their surprise, officers found every house in the village locked. No residents were present. The police confirmed that all 15 accused individuals and their family members had fled the village. Initial investigations suggest they escaped to the homes of relatives located in the neighboring state of Rajasthan.
Cross-Border Raids and Case Background
Following the leads, police teams conducted raids in Moroli and Devpura villages within Rajasthan's Dholpur district. However, these operations failed to locate the fugitives. The search for the accused and their accomplices continues.
The violence is directly linked to a serious assault that occurred in Gwalior on November 2. The victim, Shyamu Gurjar, was allegedly beaten by Hardu Gurjar and his associates due to a personal dispute. This assault led to the attempted murder case for which Hardu was wanted, ultimately triggering the fateful police raid in Janakpur.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by police forces in executing arrests in volatile rural settings and has prompted a major inter-district and inter-state manhunt.
