Pilibhit Student, Parents Booked for Photo Extortion

Police in Pilibhit have registered a serious case against a 21-year-old college student and her parents. The family faces allegations of uploading more than two hundred personal photographs of their relative's teenage daughter on social media. They attached obscene remarks to these images. Authorities state the accused then demanded one lakh rupees to take down the damaging content.

Incident Began at a Local Fair

The victim, an 18-year-old girl, reported the sequence of events to the police. She stated that the key accused, her aunt, took her to a fair in Bilsanda on November 16 last year. During this outing, the aunt celebrated her birthday at a large food corner. Twelve male students accompanied them at the location.

The young girl felt uncomfortable surrounded by the boys. She objected to the situation. Her aunt reportedly became hostile immediately after the objection. The aunt then threatened to post the girl's pictures on social media platforms to defame her publicly.

Photos Appeared with Obscene Captions

Just two days after the fair visit, the victim discovered the threat had become reality. She found two hundred and four photographs of herself posted on an Instagram account. The images carried obscene and derogatory captions. The girl was shocked and distressed by this discovery.

She promptly informed her parents about the entire incident. Her parents approached the family of the accused aunt to resolve the matter. However, the confrontation did not go well. The victim's family alleges they faced verbal abuse and even received death threats from the accused.

Demand for Money to Stop Harassment

The harassment did not end with the online posts. Police reports indicate the accused made a clear financial demand. They allegedly asked for one lakh rupees from the victim's family. The money was to stop the posting of further derogatory content online.

This demand turned the situation into a clear case of extortion. The victim's family, feeling threatened and helpless, decided to approach the police formally. They filed a detailed complaint regarding the entire episode.

Police Take Action Under BNS and IT Act

Bilsanda Station House Officer Siddhant Sharma confirmed the legal action. He stated that the girl's aunt and her parents are now officially booked. The charges are serious and fall under multiple sections of the law.

The case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Specific charges include intentional insult, criminal intimidation, and committing extortion. Additionally, sections of the Information Technology Act have been invoked due to the misuse of social media platforms.

This case highlights the growing problem of online harassment and extortion in small towns. It shows how personal disputes can escalate into serious cybercrimes. The police are now investigating the matter thoroughly to gather all digital evidence from the Instagram account involved.
