Patna Police Intercept BSRTC Bus, Confiscate IMFL Worth Rs4 Lakh

In a significant enforcement action, Patna district police on Wednesday seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) valued at approximately Rs4 lakh from a Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) bus. The operation unfolded in the Daniyawan police station area, leading to the arrest of the bus driver and conductor.

Massive Liquor Haul and Arrest Details

Law enforcement officials recovered a total of 282 bottles of IMFL from the vehicle during the raid. The arrested individuals have been identified as driver Dharamjit, a resident of Vaishali, and conductor Manoj Kumar, hailing from Motihari. Both were employed on a contract basis with BSRTC at the time of the incident.

Smuggling Operation and Police Action

According to police reports, the duo was allegedly transporting the liquor consignment from Ranchi to Muzaffarpur using the BSRTC bus as a cover to avoid suspicion. The interception occurred near Horil Bigha village following a specific tip-off received by Daniyawan police.

Daniyawan Station House Officer Anil Prasad stated, "We received credible information about liquor being smuggled through a BSRTC bus. Acting promptly on this input, our police team conducted a checking drive near Horil Bigha village in the morning hours. When the suspicious bus arrived, we immediately stopped it and conducted a thorough search."

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The police are currently investigating multiple aspects of the case:

  • Identifying who instructed the accused to transport the liquor
  • Determining potential involvement of other individuals
  • Examining whether other BSRTC employees might be connected to the smuggling racket

SHO Anil Prasad confirmed, "A formal case has been registered against both accused under the prohibition law, and further legal proceedings are actively underway." The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network and possible institutional involvement.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in enforcing prohibition laws in Bihar and raises questions about the misuse of public transport infrastructure for illegal activities. The seizure represents one of the significant liquor confiscations involving state transport vehicles in recent months.
