In a major crackdown under Bihar's prohibition law, the district administration of Patna has ordered the destruction of a massive stockpile of seized alcohol. District Magistrate Thiyagarajan SM has issued directives to destroy over two lakh litres of liquor currently held by various enforcement agencies.
Massive Stockpile Across Police and Excise Departments
The order came during a review of prohibition-related cases. The audit revealed a staggering total inventory. The police department alone is storing over 1.6 lakh litres of confiscated liquor. The excise department has an additional 32,439 litres in its custody, while the rail police hold 2,750 litres.
District Magistrate Thiyagarajan SM pointed out that several police stations have become de facto storage units for huge quantities. Stations in Didarganj, Malsalami, Bypass, Fatuha, and Phulwarisharif were specifically named, with each reportedly holding more than 5,000 litres of liquor.
Strict Timelines for Disposal and Action Against Syndicates
The DM has set clear and urgent deadlines for the disposal of this contraband. Officials have been directed to verify the stored quantities first. Following verification, country-made liquor must be destroyed within 10 days. The timeline for foreign liquor is slightly longer at 15 days.
For police stations holding particularly large stocks, special drives have been mandated. Any station with more than 1,000 litres of liquor must conduct these focused disposal operations. Beyond the liquor crackdown, the DM has also initiated the process to auction 1,256 vehicles that were seized in various cases.
Thiyagarajan SM warned of stringent legal action against organised crime networks. The administration is targeting syndicates involved not just in the illegal liquor trade, but also in illicit sand mining and fraudulent land deals.
Upholding Bihar's Prohibition Policy
This decisive move underscores the state government's commitment to its total prohibition policy. The systematic destruction of such a large volume of alcohol sends a strong message against bootlegging and illegal trade. The concurrent auction of seized vehicles aims to clear logistical backlogs and ensure that enforcement actions have tangible legal and economic consequences.
The district administration's coordinated effort, targeting both the contraband and the assets of criminal networks, represents a multi-pronged strategy to enforce the law and deter future violations in Patna and the surrounding region.
