In a major crackdown on academic malpractice, the paramedical diploma examination in Jaipur was cancelled on June 30, 2026, following revelations of a mass cheating operation. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, which involved the use of electronic devices and coordinated efforts to leak question papers. The exam, conducted by the Rajasthan Paramedical Council, was scheduled for over 2,000 candidates across multiple centers in the city.
How the Cheating Was Uncovered
The cheating came to light when invigilators at a private college in Jaipur noticed suspicious activity among several candidates. According to officials, some examinees were found with hidden Bluetooth devices and mobile phones. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a network of individuals was transmitting answers to candidates in real time. The Rajasthan Police, acting on a tip-off, raided the examination center and seized electronic equipment, including laptops and signal boosters, allegedly used to relay answers.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur East) Anil Kumar confirmed that four people were arrested on the spot. “The accused include two exam invigilators and two private individuals who were orchestrating the cheating from outside the center. They have been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating, conspiracy, and forgery,” he said.
Mass Cancellation and Investigation
Following the incident, the Rajasthan Paramedical Council announced the cancellation of the entire exam for all candidates in Jaipur. “We have decided to cancel the paramedical diploma exam to ensure fairness and integrity. A fresh examination will be conducted within two months,” said Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Chairman of the Rajasthan Paramedical Council. He added that a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the extent of the malpractice and to recommend stricter measures for future exams.
The cancellation has affected over 2,000 students who were taking the exam for admission to paramedical courses such as nursing, pharmacy, and medical laboratory technology. Many students expressed frustration over the cancellation, stating that they had prepared diligently for months. However, officials emphasized that the decision was necessary to uphold the credibility of the examination system.
Broader Context of Exam Malpractices
This incident is not isolated; Rajasthan has witnessed several cases of mass cheating in recent years. In 2023, the state’s board exams were marred by similar scandals, leading to the cancellation of papers and arrests of over 50 individuals. The paramedical exam case has reignited debates about the effectiveness of existing anti-cheating measures. The state government has announced plans to deploy advanced surveillance technologies, including AI-based monitoring, in future examinations.
“We are committed to eliminating such malpractices. The use of technology by cheaters is a challenge, but we will counter it with better technology and stricter enforcement,” said Education Minister Rajendra Singh Yadav. He also urged students to report any suspicious activities to the helpline numbers set up by the department.
Legal and Administrative Actions
The four arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody. Police are investigating whether the cheating ring had connections to other examination centers across the state. “We are analyzing the seized devices and call records to identify any larger network,” said DCP Kumar. The council has also issued show-cause notices to the private college where the incident occurred, threatening to revoke its affiliation if found complicit.
Meanwhile, the fresh exam dates will be announced after the committee submits its report. Students have been advised to stay updated through the official council website. The council has also promised to provide compensatory time for preparation, given the disruption caused.
