Panchkula Honour Killing: Brother-in-Law Murders Man Over Love Marriage
In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a man was allegedly murdered by his brother-in-law in a suspected case of honour killing in Panchkula. The main accused and his accomplice have been arrested by police, who confirmed the details on Monday.
Background of the Love Marriage
According to investigators, the victim, identified as Shivam, had married a woman named Golu approximately three months ago. This union was conducted against the explicit wishes of Golu's family, setting the stage for familial conflict. The girl's brother, who shares the same name Shivam, was reportedly deeply upset by this relationship and had been nursing a grudge ever since.
Police revealed that the accused Shivam, along with his associate Rahul, meticulously plotted to eliminate the victim. Interestingly, the victim and the main accused were once close friends, both originally hailing from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh. The Brutal Attack and Immediate Aftermath
The murder occurred on Monday morning when Shivam went to drop his mother at Industrial Area, Phase-1. While returning from this errand, he was intercepted near the Sector-19 roundabout. The accused were allegedly lying in wait at this location, armed with a gandasa, a traditional farming tool often used as a weapon in such attacks.
In a violent assault, they attacked Shivam repeatedly with the gandasa, causing severe injuries. He was quickly rushed to the Sector-6 civil hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival, underscoring the ferocity of the attack.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
Following the attack, both accused fled the scene, attempting to evade capture. However, police teams from multiple units—including Dial 112, the crime scene unit, Sector-20 police station, and the Sector-19 police outpost—were immediately mobilized into action.
Under the leadership of inspector Sombir Dhaka, the teams tracked the suspects diligently. Within just two hours of the crime, they successfully arrested the accused from Zirakpur in Punjab. The arrested individuals were identified as Shivam, aged 20, and Rahul, aged 19, both of whom worked as delivery workers. Police also recovered the blood-stained gandasa used in the crime, providing crucial evidence.
