Noida Police Cracks Down on Notorious Interstate Car Theft Gang
In a significant breakthrough, the Noida police have successfully busted an inter-state gang that has been operating for over a decade, accused of stealing more than 200 four-wheelers using sophisticated hi-tech equipment. The operation, led by the Sector 39 police station, culminated in the arrest of six key members, including the alleged kingpin, and the recovery of four stolen cars from various locations.
Well-Organised Modus Operandi Uncovered
According to DCP Noida, Yamuna Prasad, the gang followed a meticulously planned modus operandi that involved detailed reconnaissance missions to identify vehicles in areas with minimal security. Once a target was selected, the criminals would break the locks and install GPS jammers in the cars to prevent police tracking, showcasing their advanced technical knowledge.
Interrogation Reveals Extensive Criminal Network
During interrogation, the accused revealed that stolen vehicles were sold on demand in states like Rajasthan and Haryana. Vehicles that could not be sold were dismantled, and their parts were sold in various auto parts markets in Delhi. The proceeds from these illegal activities were systematically shared among gang members, highlighting the organised nature of their operations.
Gang's Widespread Activities and Criminal Records
Additional DCP Shavya Goyal stated that the gang has been continuously committing vehicle thefts since 2013, expanding its network across several states. Their activities were traced not only to Noida and Ghaziabad but also to Amroha and Rajasthan, making them a major challenge for police agencies across multiple jurisdictions.
The arrested individuals were identified as:
- Sameer alias Daud alias Kunja and Salim, residents of UP's Sambhal
- Azad, a resident of Delhi
- Mohsin and Faisal from Jodhpur, Rajasthan
Sameer is believed to be the gang's kingpin, facing 14 criminal cases in Delhi and Noida alone, with several more in Amroha. Co-accused Salim has 7 cases registered against him, while Azad has a staggering criminal record of 38 cases across different police stations. Another accused, Salim, faces 4 cases, and Mohsin and Faisal each face 3 cases.
Background and Motivations of the Accused
Police investigations revealed that all the accused had limited education, ranging only between Class 5 and Class 9. Despite this, they were drawn into organised crime in pursuit of quick money, underscoring the socio-economic factors that often drive such illegal activities.
Recognition for the Police Team
In recognition of their efforts, DCP Yamuna Prasad announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for the police team that successfully busted the gang. This move aims to boost morale and encourage continued vigilance against such criminal enterprises.
The bust marks a crucial step in curbing vehicle thefts in the region and serves as a warning to other organised crime groups operating across state borders.
