Noida Expressway Crash Claims Woman's Life, Leaves Five Injured in Early Morning Horror
A tragic accident on the Noida Expressway resulted in the death of a 55-year-old woman and injuries to five others after a speeding SUV collided with two vans in the early hours of Sunday. The incident occurred near Sector 82, highlighting severe road safety concerns on this busy stretch.
Details of the High-Speed Collision
According to police reports, a Mahindra Scorpio, registered in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, was traveling at over 100 kilometers per hour when it crashed into two Maruti Eeco vans from behind. The impact was so forceful that it caused one of the vans and the SUV to overturn on the carriageway from Delhi.
The occupants of the two Eeco vans were en route to Greater Noida around 3 a.m., returning from a relative's wedding in Delhi. Praveen Singh, ACP-1, stated, "They were on their way when the Scorpio hit both vans from behind in quick succession." The collision happened just seconds apart, amplifying the devastation.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
A passer-by immediately alerted the authorities via dial 112, prompting a police team to rush to the scene. The injured were swiftly shifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Asha Devi, a resident of Risauli village in Budaun, succumbed to her injuries later, marking a somber outcome from the crash.
Among the injured were her relatives: Rajkumar (70), Reena (35), Shripal (30), and Ravi (30), all hailing from Budaun. Additionally, the Scorpio driver, identified as Shivam Kumar (31), a resident of Sector 142 in Noida, sustained serious injuries. Police confirmed that some of the injured, including the driver, are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), underscoring the severity of the incident.
Vehicle Occupancy and Aftermath
Investigations revealed that each van carried six persons, totaling twelve occupants between them, while the Scorpio had only its driver. Following the accident, all three damaged vehicles were removed from the expressway to restore traffic flow.
ACP Singh further mentioned that police have received a written complaint from the woman's family, and the process of registering a First Information Report (FIR) is currently underway. This step is crucial for legal proceedings and accountability in the case.
Broader Implications for Road Safety
This incident raises alarming questions about speeding and road discipline on expressways. With the Noida Expressway being a critical artery for commuters, such accidents call for enhanced vigilance and stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent future tragedies.
Authorities are urging drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially during late-night hours when visibility and reaction times may be compromised. The community mourns the loss and hopes for a speedy recovery of the injured, as investigations continue to unfold the full circumstances of this devastating crash.
