Police in Noida have busted a burglary gang that used a unique stone-throwing and surveillance trick to carry out multiple thefts across the city. The gang was arrested after a series of robberies in upscale residential areas, with stolen goods valued at approximately ₹50 lakh recovered from their possession.
How the Stone and Surveillance Trick Worked
The gang employed a two-step method to execute their crimes. First, they would throw stones at targeted houses to check if anyone was home. If no one responded, they would then set up a simple surveillance system using mobile phones to monitor the area and ensure the coast was clear before breaking in. According to police officials, the gang specifically targeted homes that appeared unoccupied during daytime hours when residents were at work.
“They would throw stones at the main door or windows. If there was no reaction, they assumed the house was empty and proceeded with the burglary,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigation. “They also used mobile phones to record the surroundings and keep watch for any approaching residents or security personnel.”
Police Investigation and Arrests
The breakthrough came after a series of complaints from residents in sectors 44, 62, and 71 of Noida. Police set up special teams and analyzed CCTV footage from the affected areas. The suspects were identified through their repeated use of the same modus operandi. Following a tip-off, three individuals were arrested from a hideout in Sector 49 late Thursday night.
The arrested have been identified as Ravi Kumar, 28, Mohit Singh, 32, and Vikas Sharma, 25, all residents of nearby slum clusters. Police recovered laptops, jewelry, cash, and electronic gadgets worth ₹50 lakh from their possession. The gang is believed to be responsible for at least 12 burglaries in the last three months.
Impact on Residents and Security Measures
Residents in the affected areas have expressed relief at the arrests but remain cautious. “We were living in fear. It’s good that the police acted quickly,” said a resident of Sector 62. Police have advised residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, such as stones being thrown at their homes. They also recommended installing better security systems and forming neighborhood watch groups.
Police are now investigating if the gang has links to other similar crimes in the Delhi-NCR region. Further interrogations are underway to trace any additional accomplices and recover more stolen property.
