A special NIA court in Delhi's Patiala House complex has granted the National Investigation Agency ten days of custody for Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, a key suspect in the ongoing terror investigation linked to the November 10 explosion near the historic Red Fort.
Court Proceedings Amid Security Scare
The hearing took place on November 18 before Principal District and Session Judge Anju Bajaj Chandana, who serves as the special NIA judge. In a significant development, the courtroom proceedings occurred behind closed doors while the entire Patiala House Court complex, along with Rohini Court and Saket Court, faced evacuation due to bomb threats that were later confirmed to be hoax alerts.
Security personnel conducted thorough searches across all three court premises as the NIA presented their case for needing custody of the accused. The agency argued that Wani's detention is crucial for uncovering the larger conspiracy behind the Red Fort incident that occurred on November 10.
Technical Expertise in Terror Plot
According to court sources, the National Investigation Agency revealed that Jasir Bilal Wani possesses specialized knowledge in drone technology. The investigation has uncovered that he was allegedly contacted to design precision rockets and had been providing technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones.
The NIA stated in court that the Red Fort blast was strategically planned to strike terror and panic among citizens while threatening public order across the country. The agency emphasized Wani's active role as a co-conspirator who worked closely with terrorist Umar un Nabi to plan the carnage that resulted in 15 fatalities and multiple injuries.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
Jasir Bilal Wani, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested from Srinagar on November 17 by an NIA team operating in the Kashmir Valley. The arrest came after extensive investigations revealed his alleged involvement in the terror plot.
The anti-terror agency continues to explore various angles to completely unravel the conspiracy behind the bombing. Multiple NIA teams are currently pursuing leads and conducting searches across several states to identify every individual involved in the terror attack.
With the ten-day custody period now granted, investigators will focus on extracting critical information about the network behind the attack and preventing any future threats to national security.
