Newlywed Man Killed, Wife Seriously Injured in Horrific Mumbai-Goa Highway Crash
A devastating road accident on the Mumbai-Goa highway has resulted in the death of a newly married man and left his wife with grievous injuries. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, involved a cement mixer truck that collided with a motorcycle carrying the couple.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The victim has been identified as Mahesh Jadhav, a 34-year-old resident of Panvel. His wife, Sujata Jadhav, sustained serious injuries in the crash. The couple, who had just gotten married on February 17, were traveling on their bike when the accident happened around 9:45 AM near Dolvi village.
According to police constable Rupesh Konde from Wadkhal police station, the cement mixer truck, heading towards Goa, dashed into the motorcycle on a bridge. The impact caused the bike to skid approximately 20 meters along the bridge surface. The truck driver, identified as Dilchand Kumar Chauhan (23) from Bihar, initially abandoned his vehicle at the scene and fled but later surrendered at the Wadkhal police station.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Wadkhal police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Chauhan, who was reportedly en route to a cement plant in Nagothane at the time of the accident. He has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving causing death.
Constable Konde provided additional context: "Mahesh Jadhav worked as a goods transporter using his tempo vehicle. On Wednesday morning, the couple was traveling to Jadhav's native village of Panhalghar in Mangaon taluka, where his parents reside, when the tragic collision occurred on the bridge."
Aftermath and Family Tragedy
The injured Sujata Jadhav received treatment at a private hospital in Wadkhal for two days following the accident. However, she subsequently discharged herself against medical advice, stating she needed to conduct her husband's final rites at their native village in Panhalghar.
In a significant development, the accused truck driver Chauhan has not been arrested but has been served with a notice under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) provisions. Police have directed him to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and appear for any required inquiries or court proceedings related to the case.
