A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Sunday at Neeralagi Cross in Shiggaon taluk, Haveri district, claiming the lives of a young couple who had tied the knot merely days earlier. The fatal road accident occurred on the bustling National Highway 48, leaving the local community in profound shock and sorrow.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The victims have been identified as Karthik Hugar, aged 34, and his wife Aishwarya Hugar, aged 30, both residents of Haveri. According to preliminary reports from the Tadas police, who have registered a case, the catastrophic incident took place around 5 AM. The couple's car violently rammed into a stationary lorry parked along the highway, resulting in the vehicle being completely mangled and destroyed.
A Journey for Blessings Turns Tragic
Family sources revealed that Karthik had embarked on a spiritual journey with his wife, his brother-in-law, and a friend to Navalgund. Their destination was the Kamadeva installation, set up in observance of Holi Hunnime, where the couple sought divine blessings. "The couple prayed fervently, hoping to be blessed with a child by the next year," shared a relative, highlighting their aspirations for a future that will now remain unfulfilled. Karthik was employed at a cooperative society in Haveri, contributing to the local economy and community.
Rescue Efforts and Additional Casualties
Police personnel and fire & emergency services teams rushed to the scene, facing immense challenges in extricating the bodies from the severely damaged car. The operation was fraught with difficulty due to the extent of the wreckage. In a further twist of tragedy, Aishwarya's father, who visited the crash site upon hearing the news, suffered a severe heart attack from the shock and trauma. He was immediately admitted to a hospital for urgent medical care.
