New Year 2026: Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh Police Announce Major Security & Traffic Plans
New Year 2026: Police in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh Issue Advisory

As India gears up to welcome 2026, police forces in major metropolitan cities have rolled out extensive security and traffic management plans to ensure safe and smooth celebrations. Authorities in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chandigarh have issued detailed advisories outlining restrictions, special deployments, and safety measures for the New Year's Eve festivities.

Delhi Police Implements Evening Traffic Restrictions in Connaught Place

The Delhi Traffic Police issued a crucial advisory on Tuesday, December 31, 2025, announcing significant traffic curbs in and around the central hub of Connaught Place and its vicinity. The special arrangements will be enforced from 7 pm on December 31 and will remain active until the New Year celebrations conclude.

These restrictions will impact all private and public transport vehicles, barring those with specific permissions. The police have also outlined designated parking areas and alternate routes for commuters to minimise inconvenience. The security blueprint was finalised after senior officials reviewed the arrangements at Connaught Place, a perennial hotspot for revellers.

Bengaluru Police Focus on Crowded Hubs and Women's Safety

In the southern tech capital, Bengaluru police have formulated a meticulous strategy to maintain law and order. The plan specifically targets the safety of women and young adults across the city's popular celebration zones.

Areas anticipated to witness massive footfalls include MG Road, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield, Neeladri Road, Electronic City, and major shopping malls. To manage the expected large crowds, the police will deploy several key measures:

  • Watch tower stands at strategic locations for enhanced aerial surveillance.
  • Designated safe zones marked by special umbrellas, which also offer shelter from weather.
  • Dedicated women's help desks to provide immediate assistance and support.

The Commissioner of Police detailed these steps in a press note, emphasising a proactive approach to crowd control and citizen safety.

Chandigarh Deploys Special Lady Squad for Pub and Mall Patrols

The Chandigarh Police is placing a strong emphasis on women's security for the December 31 celebrations. A cornerstone of their plan is the formation of a special lady squad comprising 20 women police personnel.

This squad, equipped with vehicles, will be strategically deployed in sensitive areas such as pubs, malls, and bustling marketplaces. Their primary role is to ensure law and order and provide prompt aid to any woman in distress during the New Year's Eve festivities in Chandigarh. This initiative is bolstered by the deployment of additional PCR (Police Control Room) units for rapid response.

The coordinated efforts across these major cities underscore a nationwide focus on pre-emptive planning and citizen-centric policing to ensure that the transition into 2026 is both joyous and secure for all.
