Nalanda Youth Gunned Down Over Rs 5,000 Loan Dispute, Friend in Custody

A tragic incident unfolded in Nalanda district on Tuesday night when a 20-year-old youth was brutally shot dead near Dambar Bigha village in the Manpur area. The murder is allegedly linked to a dispute over a mere Rs 5,000 loan, highlighting how minor financial matters can escalate into fatal violence in rural Bihar.

Victim Identified as Saurabh Kumar

The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Kumar, son of Ramanuj Sharma from Pawa village under Manpur police station. According to police reports, Saurabh had lent Rs 5,000 to an individual who called him on Tuesday evening to settle the debt. He left his home around 8 pm with a friend, promising his family he would return shortly.

His mother, Urmila Devi, recounted the heartbreaking sequence of events: "He received a phone call and went out with one of his friends in a car, saying he would be back soon. Later, we were informed that someone had shot him. He was rushed to Vardhman Institute of Medical Science in Pawapuri but succumbed to his injuries." She emphasized that her son had gone out specifically to collect the money he had lent.

Brutal Attack by Bike-Borne Assailants

Initial investigations reveal that Saurabh was accompanied by his friend, Mithilesh Kumar. As they traveled, four bike-borne assailants intercepted them near Dambar Bigha village. The attackers reportedly snatched the car and Mithilesh's cellphone before opening fire on Saurabh. Mithilesh attempted to intervene but was unable to prevent the shooting.

After the attack, Mithilesh informed Saurabh's family about the incident. Police have taken Mithilesh into custody for questioning as part of their investigation into the murder.

Police Response and Investigation

Bihar Sharif ASP Nurul Haq provided details about the police action following the crime. "The forensic team has collected samples from the crime spot," he stated. "Family members allege that Saurabh was killed over a money dispute. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case and arrest the accused."

The SIT is being led by Sadar SDPO-1 under the direction of Nalanda SP Bharat Soni, indicating the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case. After a post-mortem examination at Bihar Sharif sadar hospital, Saurabh's body was handed over to his grieving family.

Further investigation is currently underway as police work to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this senseless killing over what began as a relatively small financial transaction.
