Background and Previous Notices
On the directions of Chief Officer Rajendra Chikhalkhunde, the fire department had issued primary fire safety notices to over 200 establishments nearly six months ago. While some units, particularly those previously under MIDC limits, achieved compliance, many within the municipal council area ignored repeated notices. Despite being granted a 30-day period earlier, 19 establishments continued to flout the norms, prompting this final warning.
Phase One Inspections and Future Plans
In the first phase, inspections targeted bars and restaurants, wine shops, garment stores, bike showrooms, electronics shops, and commercial complexes. These establishments were inspected under Section 5, issued violation notices under Section 6, and later served reminder notices. Officials announced that the next phase will cover a broader range of facilities, including:
- Hospitals, schools, and colleges
- Petrol pumps and gas godowns
- Marriage halls and large residential buildings
- Banks, hotels, and lodges
