A motor rewinding workshop in Nagpur's Wadi area was deliberately set on fire, resulting in significant property damage estimated at ₹3.9 lakh. The alleged arson attack, carried out by a former employee and his associates, occurred on December 20 around 11:30 am.
The Incident and Location
The targeted workshop is located opposite the Lava petrol pump on Amravati Road. The owner of the establishment is Chandrashekhar Kumbhare (38), a resident of Vitthalwadi in Dattawadi. According to the police complaint, the assailants entered the premises, poured petrol, and ignited the fire.
Root of the Rivalry
The primary accused has been identified as Prem Vishwakarma (29) from Mahadev Nagar. Vishwakarma had previously worked at the workshop owned by Kumbhare's father before branching out to start his own motor rewinding unit on Khadgaon Road.
The motive behind the violent act appears to be professional jealousy and rivalry. Police reports indicate that just four days prior to the incident, a worker named Dhiraj Kursunge left Vishwakarma's employment to join Kumbhare's workshop. This move reportedly infuriated Vishwakarma.
Extent of the Damage and Police Action
The attack was not limited to the workshop alone. The complainant informed the police that the accused and his two unidentified accomplices also smashed the window of Kumbhare's four-wheeler and torched his two-wheeler that was parked outside the shop.
Following the complaint, the MIDC police have registered a formal case. The charges have been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:
- Section 131 (assault/criminal force)
- Section 326(F) (mischief by fire)
- Section 324(5) (mischief causing damage)
- Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation)
- Sections 352 and 3(5) (common intention)
An investigation into the matter is currently underway as authorities work to apprehend all individuals involved in the crime.
