Nagpur Woman Forced into Marriage After Rape and Black Magic

Nagpur Woman Endures Horrific Ordeal: Rape, Blackmail, Forced Marriage, and Black Magic Torture

A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Nagpur, where a 21-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to a series of horrific crimes, culminating in forced marriage and brutal torture involving black magic. Based on her detailed complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Kapil Nagar police station, setting off a complex investigation into this multi-layered atrocity.

A Friendship Betrayed: The Initial Assault

According to the official complaint, the survivor and the main accused were acquainted since their school days. This familiarity was brutally exploited on November 5 of last year. Between 2 PM and 4 PM, the accused allegedly lured the woman to an area near the Pili River. From there, he took her to his uncle's residence. It was at this location that he allegedly committed rape, forcibly violating her.

Blackmail and Coercion into Marriage

The violation was compounded by a calculated act of blackmail. Two other individuals, identified as Raja Sheikh and an as-yet-unidentified accomplice, were allegedly present and filmed the entire assault. They subsequently threatened to release the video publicly unless the victim complied with their demands. Under this immense duress and threat of social ruin, the woman was later coerced into marrying the very man who had raped her, the main accused in this case.

Marital Hell: Black Magic and Physical Torture

The nightmare intensified after the forced marriage. The complaint details that during her menstrual period, a so-called 'Baba' or occult practitioner performed black magic rituals on her. Furthermore, her mother-in-law, allegedly aided by other family members and associates, subjected her to severe and sustained mental and physical torture, turning her marital home into a prison of abuse.

Legal Action and Arrests

The Nagpur Police have taken serious note of the allegations. They have invoked multiple sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 64 (pertaining to rape), along with sections 115(2), 85, 351(3), and 3(5). Provisions related to the eradication of superstitions have also been applied in connection with the black magic allegations.

In a significant development, the main accused—the rape survivor's husband—was arrested on March 30. However, the other accused named in the FIR, including Raja Sheikh from the Bande Nawaz Nagar area of Yashodhara Nagar and his associate, remain at large as police efforts to apprehend them continue.

Survivor Support and Privacy

Authorities have confirmed that the survivor is currently receiving professional counselling to help her cope with the profound trauma of these events. In strict adherence to Supreme Court directives designed to protect the privacy and dignity of survivors in sexual assault cases, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed to the public or media.

This case highlights a terrifying nexus of sexual violence, coercion, superstition, and domestic abuse, putting a spotlight on the challenges in combating such complex crimes in the community.
