Nagpur Woman Alleges Drugging, Forced Conversion

A 24-year-old married woman in Nagpur has filed a complaint alleging that a former school acquaintance drugged her during a meeting arranged under the pretext of a property deal. She claims he secretly filmed her in compromising circumstances, blackmailed her with the recordings, and later forced her to participate in a religious conversion ritual where she was made to say “Qabul hai qabul hai” against her will.

Based on her complaint, Sonegaon police arrested two accused — Ayyaz Taj Madare and his associate Ameen Shaikh — on charges including rape, extortion, criminal intimidation, and forced religious conversion. A third accused, identified as Hazrat Maulana of Tamiya village in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, is absconding.

Details of the Allegations

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman, whose husband is a member of the armed forces posted outside Nagpur, reconnected with Madare after he approached her for help with a property-related matter. She alleged that on February 8, 2025, Madare called her to a hotel, where he spiked her drink with an intoxicating substance.

The complainant stated that she lost consciousness and later discovered that photographs and videos of her in compromising positions had been recorded without her consent.

Blackmail and Extortion

Police said the woman alleged that the accused used the material to blackmail her, threatening to make the videos public and share them with her husband. She claimed that nearly Rs 4 lakh was extorted from her over a period of time.

The FIR further states that Madare repeatedly subjected her to rituals he claimed were linked to hypnosis and black magic. She alleged that he forced her to consume an unidentified liquid from a plastic bottle, chanted verses in Urdu, blew substances on her face, and sexually assaulted her.

Forced Conversion Ceremony

In another incident on May 31, the woman alleged that Madare and Shaikh took her to Kalmeshwar, where Hazrat Maulana conducted rituals culminating in a religious conversion ceremony. According to the complaint, she was forced to repeatedly say “Qabul hai qabul hai” and participate against her will.

The woman alleged that she was thereafter declared converted to Islam and married to Madare without her consent. She also claimed she was forced to eat meat before being taken to a hotel, where she was allegedly raped again.

Ongoing Abuse

According to police, the complainant further alleged that the accused continued to visit her residence and sexually assault her on multiple occasions. The woman, who runs a property-related business, did not immediately approach the police due to fear, investigators said. She later informed her husband about the alleged incidents and lodged a complaint at Sonegaon police station.

Investigation Underway

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Rushikesh Reddy said the case is being investigated from all angles. “We are carrying out forensic analysis of seized electronic devices, verifying financial transactions, and recording witness statements. All aspects, including allegations of coercion and digital evidence, are being examined,” he said.

Police have invoked provisions related to rape, extortion, criminal intimidation, and Maharashtra's anti-superstition and anti-black magic law. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused, officials said.
