Nagpur Rural Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Liquor Operations

In a significant enforcement drive targeting the illicit liquor trade, the rural police in Nagpur have registered a total of nine cases against twelve accused individuals. The operation led to the seizure of illegal alcohol and related paraphernalia with an estimated value of Rs 75,000. This coordinated effort underscores the authorities' commitment to curbing unlawful activities in the region.

Major Raids at Katol Police Station Yield Multiple Arrests

At the Katol police station, six separate cases were filed as part of this crackdown. Notably, six women were among those charged for their involvement in selling 'mahua' liquor, a locally brewed alcoholic beverage. During these raids, law enforcement officials confiscated approximately 600 litres of illicit alcohol along with various pieces of equipment used in its production and distribution.

Additional Cases and Seizures Across Rural Nagpur

In another notable incident, an individual identified as Dhanraj Mahadev Wagh was apprehended for possessing ten bottles of country liquor. The police conducted separate raids in several other areas, including Kelvad, Umred, Kanhan, Khapa, and Narkhed, resulting in further seizures of illegal substances. These operations highlight the widespread nature of the illicit liquor trade across rural Nagpur.

Legal Actions Under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act

All cases have been registered under various sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, which strictly regulates the manufacture, sale, and consumption of alcohol in the state. Officials have emphasized that illegal liquor sales continue to be a rampant issue in these rural areas, posing significant public health and safety risks.
