Nagpur Police Implements Multi-Layered Security for Smooth Polling
The Nagpur city police have established strong arrangements to guarantee peaceful, transparent, and incident-free voting. This effort covers more than 3,000 polling booths located in 900 buildings across 38 wards. Polling is scheduled for Thursday.
Massive Police Deployment and Rapid Response Strategy
Authorities have deployed a total of 5,500 police personnel specifically for election duty. A major operational focus involves the activation of 140 sector patrolling teams throughout the city. These teams receive support from 15 special striking forces prepared for immediate action.
One critical goal is ensuring a police vehicle reaches any troubled location within five minutes. At least two vehicles must arrive at the scene within ten minutes. This rapid response plan aims to address any disruptions swiftly.
Aggressive Security Strategy Amid Tensions
Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal launched an aggressive and multi-layered security strategy. This move comes amid reports of simmering tensions in sensitive areas. There are also allegations that money power is being used to influence voters.
Commissioner Singal personally toured hypersensitive, critical, and vulnerable polling stations. He conducted on-the-spot inspections at locations in Dharampeth, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar, Lakadganj, and Mangalwari zones. During these visits, he reviewed deployments and issued immediate instructions for enhanced security measures.
Checkpoints, Drone Patrols, and Fortified Booths
A senior police officer provided details on additional security layers. Thirty-four police stations will operate 78 nakabandis, or checkpoints. These checkpoints function in coordination with traffic police and crime branch teams.
The officer stated that night-time drone patrolling has been intensified. This measure focuses on monitoring and preventing the distribution of cash, liquor, or other inducements in the final hours before polling begins.
Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy also took to the streets to review the deployments personally.
Critical polling booths are receiving extra fortification. Security features include CCTVs, webcasting, and joint patrols with Nagpur Municipal Corporation officials. Quick-response teams and rapid intervention units are positioned strategically, especially in sensitive areas like Mominpura and Yashodhara Nagar.
