Nagpur Hotelier Murder Case: Borrower Arrested After Decomposed Body Discovered
In a shocking development in Nagpur, a 48-year-old city hotelier, Rahul Shahu, was found dead under gruesome circumstances, leading to the arrest of a borrower he was allegedly harassing over excess interest on a loan. The decomposed body was discovered on Wednesday noon, stuffed in two sacks, with one embossed with the name of a popular chicken brand, sparking a swift police investigation.
Key Clues and Swift Arrest
Jaripatka police revealed that Shahu's scooter, found nearby, provided the crucial clue that led to the arrest of the accused shortly after midnight on Wednesday. The body was recovered from a sewage nullah near Nara crematorium in north Nagpur after residents complained of a foul stench, exactly 48 hours after Shahu went missing on April 20.
Shahu, a father of two, had left his Chhaoni hotel around 8:15 PM, telling his staff he would return in an hour after attending to important work. When his phone was switched off, his wife, Vanita, filed a missing complaint at Sadar police station the next day. The police have not yet disclosed the identity of the arrested accused, but confirmed the loan dispute is believed to be a primary motive, though other angles are under probe.
Investigation Details and Multiple Angles
Senior police officials, including Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, DCPs Sanjay Pakhale and Rahul Mathnikar, ACP Satyaveer Bandiwar, and Jaripatka police inspector Anil Takshande, mobilized multiple crime branch teams to crack the case. One team scanned CCTV footage from key locations like Kadbi Chowk, Patankar Chowk, Kamptee Road, and Jaripatka Ring Road, while other teams questioned hotel employees, family members, friends, and potential suspects.
The police stated that Shahu suffered 16 stab wounds, including two deep cuts on his forehead, and was identified from an 'Om Sairam' tattoo on his left hand. In addition to the loan dispute, authorities are investigating other possible motives, including online betting losses and an illicit relationship angle, emphasizing that the probe is ongoing to uncover all facets of the crime.
Background of the Victim
Shahu was reportedly debt-ridden after his chit fund business collapsed, leading him to borrow heavily from multiple sources. In a troubling detail, he had taken Rs 8 lakh from a woman in Saoner taluka by falsely promising her a job, for which she had filed a complaint against him. This financial turmoil adds complexity to the case, as police explore whether his mounting debts and disputes contributed to his tragic end.
The arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, but with multiple angles still under scrutiny, the Nagpur police continue to piece together the events leading to Shahu's murder, ensuring a thorough examination of all evidence and testimonies.
