Nagpur: Pilgrimage Plan Ends in Tragedy After Drinking Session Turns Violent

What was supposed to be a prelude to a spiritual journey descended into a scene of horrific violence in Nagpur's Pachpaoli area. A casual gathering among friends, intended to discuss an upcoming pilgrimage, culminated in the brutal murder of a 43-year-old man shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Fatal Altercation During Pre-Pilgrimage Gathering

The victim, identified as Ramesh Masram, a resident of Vaishali Nagar who worked as a labourer, was fatally assaulted at the home of his friend, Shripad Bhaisare, in Baba Buddhaji Nagar. Bhaisare, a rag-picker, and Masram had planned to travel together to Madhya Pradesh for a pilgrimage. On the fateful night, they were joined by two other friends to discuss the trip.

The incident unfolded between 11:30 PM on Sunday and 12:20 AM on Monday. During a drinking session at Bhaisare's residence, a dispute erupted for reasons still under investigation. It is reported that Masram verbally abused Bhaisare, triggering a violent response.

Brutal Assault Captured on CCTV

In a fit of rage, the three accused allegedly conspired and launched a vicious attack on Masram. They used a wooden stick to repeatedly strike him on the head. CCTV footage from the vicinity is said to have captured Bhaisare holding a stick during the altercation, providing investigators with crucial visual evidence of the crime.

Masram sustained severe head injuries from the assault. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival, unable to save him from the traumatic wounds.

Police Action and Arrests

The victim's brother, Chandrakant (50), a resident of Yadav Nagar, filed a formal complaint at the Pachpaoli police station. Based on his statement, authorities registered a case under Section 103 (murder) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to murder with common intention, replacing the earlier IPC sections.

Police swiftly arrested all three accused involved in the crime:

  • Shripad Bhaisare (48)
  • Kapil Ram Prasad Nagarare (43)
  • Jaswant Singh Narendra Singh Adi (75)

A senior officer from the Pachpaoli police station commented on the incident, stating, "It was a senseless act fuelled by alcohol and a momentary dispute among people who shared a close bond." The three accused have been remanded in police custody for three days to facilitate further investigation. Notably, sources indicate that none of the accused had any prior criminal records, highlighting the sudden and tragic nature of the event.

This shocking murder has sent ripples through the local community, turning a simple plan for a pilgrimage into a devastating crime scene. The investigation continues as authorities piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this fatal outcome.
