Nagpur Car Crash Leads to Culpable Homicide Charges Against Driver
A tragic accident in Nagpur has resulted in serious legal consequences for a car driver, who now faces non-bailable charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman and left a 19-year-old scooter rider injured.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident unfolded around 6 pm on the road connecting Radhemangal Hall to Swaroop Nagar, near Vijaya Hospital, within the limits of the Ranapratap Nagar police station. According to police reports, Simran Mane, aged 19, was riding a scooter when a speeding car rammed into her vehicle from behind. The impact caused Mane to fall and sustain injuries, but she is currently reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
The situation escalated rapidly as the car driver, identified as Harsh Palewar, allegedly failed to stop after the initial collision. Instead, he lost control of the vehicle, which then struck pedestrian Bhagyashree Kathiwan, a 61-year-old resident of Deendayal Nagar. The car subsequently crashed into an electric pole and a DP box, causing significant damage. Kathiwan suffered grave injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at Viveka Hospital.
Legal Actions and Police Investigation
Following the accident, police swiftly rounded up Harsh Palewar and are actively working to ascertain his precise role in the events. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Simran Mane, authorities have registered a case against the driver under multiple legal provisions. These include Sections 281, 105, 125(B), and 324(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
Notably, Sections 105 and 125(B) of the BNS specifically address non-bailable punishment for causing death through rash or negligent acts that amount to culpable homicide. This underscores the severity of the charges, reflecting the tragic outcome of the incident.
