Nagpur ANTF Makes Major Drug Bust, Seizes 505 Kg of Ganja
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Nagpur executed a significant operation on Monday, resulting in the seizure of a massive 505 kilograms of ganja. The interception occurred near the Mathani toll plaza, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mauda police station in the Nagpur rural police area.
Concealment and Interception Details
The illicit consignment was meticulously hidden to avoid detection. It was packed in numerous black plastic sacks and concealed beneath piles of construction rods, iron bars, and various steel materials within the truck. This method of concealment is commonly used by smugglers to disguise narcotics during transportation across state lines.
The truck had embarked on its journey from Ayanakot in Odisha, heading southward. ANTF officials closely monitored and shadowed the vehicle as it traversed multiple state borders. Once the truck entered the ANTF's operational jurisdiction, the team moved in to intercept it at the Mathani toll plaza.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
Upon interception, the authorities detained both the driver and his helper who were operating the truck. They were promptly taken to the Mauda police station for further investigation. A formal case has been registered under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which governs drug-related offenses in India.
Currently, the duo is undergoing intensive questioning by law enforcement officials. The interrogation focuses on uncovering critical details about the suppliers who provided the ganja, the specific route planned for distribution, and the intended buyers in coastal cities or potentially beyond.

The seized ganja was described as still moist and emitting a pungent odor, indicating its recent harvest and high potency. It filled dozens of sacks and was reportedly destined for coastal urban centers, where demand for such substances is often higher. Sources within the ANTF revealed that this particular route from Odisha is a preferred pathway for smugglers based in that region, leveraging interstate travel to evade law enforcement.
This bust highlights the ongoing efforts by anti-narcotics agencies to combat drug trafficking networks operating across state borders. The ANTF's vigilance and coordinated action have successfully prevented a large quantity of illegal drugs from reaching the market, thereby disrupting a key supply chain in the region.
