In a swift investigation, Nagpur police have cracked the sensational murder of a 33-year-old tax recovery agent within just eight days, leading to the arrest of four accused individuals. The victim, identified as Ashish Gondane, was brutally attacked during a picnic at Beena Sangam, an incident that had initially left investigators with few clues.
The Breakthrough: A Casual Disclosure Cracks the Case
Initially, the probe faced significant hurdles with no immediate eyewitnesses or accessible CCTV footage from the scene. However, sharp intelligence work by the crime branch turned the tide. According to sources, a major breakthrough occurred when one of the accused allegedly disclosed details of the crime to a friend in a casual conversation.
This friend, acting promptly, relayed the critical information to a police contact. The tip-off quickly reached the crime branch team, which then combined it with technical surveillance data. This synergy of human intelligence and digital tracking allowed sleuths to swiftly identify and zero in on the suspects.
The Arrests and the Motive Behind the Attack
Acting on the developed lead, a team led by Senior Inspector Kamlakar Gaddime apprehended the four accused. Those arrested are Akash Parihar (20), Mitanshu alias Lucky Bulkunde (20), Manish Bawne (19), and Rahul Kawale (21). All are residents of the Shanti Nagar and Bajrang Chowk areas in Nagpur. Notably, police confirmed that none of the four had any prior criminal record and that they were not known to the victim or his friends.
The murder, police sources revealed, originated from a shockingly trivial dispute. On November 23, Gondane had gone for a picnic to Beena Sangam, under the limits of Khaparkheda Police Station, with his friends Sushil Gedam (33) and Sachin Mishra (31).
The tragic turn of events occurred around 5:30 PM when a group of youths approached the trio and asked for a lighter. A minor argument ensued, which rapidly escalated into verbal abuse. When Gondane and his friends objected to the abuse, the accused group allegedly launched a violent assault.
The attackers used stones and a knife, repeatedly stabbing the victims. Ashish Gondane succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Kamptee. His friend, Sushil Gedam, survived after receiving treatment at a private hospital. Police stated that the assailants were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Confessions and Legal Proceedings
During interrogation following their arrest, all four accused individuals confessed to their involvement in the crime. After the crime branch completed its initial investigation, the accused were handed over to the Khaparkheda Police for further legal action and proceedings.
The case highlights how a momentary altercation, fueled by alcohol, can lead to fatal consequences. It also underscores the effectiveness of community-police information sharing, which proved pivotal in solving a case that initially appeared to have no witnesses.
