Noida Airport Commences Operations with Inaugural Flight
The much-anticipated Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, officially begins operations today, June 15, 2026. The first flight, an IndiGo service from Lucknow, is scheduled to land at 8:00 AM, marking a historic moment for the region's aviation infrastructure.
Key Details of the Inaugural Flight
The IndiGo flight from Lucknow will touch down at the new airport, signaling the start of commercial services. This initial connection is expected to ease congestion at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and provide greater convenience for travelers in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The airport, built at a cost of over ₹29,000 crore, features a single runway and a terminal capable of handling 12 million passengers annually. Phase 1 includes 29 parking bays and a 5.5 km long runway. Future phases will expand capacity to 70 million passengers per year.
Significance for Delhi-NCR
Located in Jewar, about 75 km from Delhi, the airport aims to serve the rapidly growing population of western Uttar Pradesh and parts of Delhi. It is expected to boost economic activity, create jobs, and improve connectivity to destinations like Agra, Mathura, and Aligarh.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony. The airport will initially offer domestic flights, with international operations planned from 2027.
Passengers have been advised to arrive early and check flight schedules as operations ramp up. The airport's modern facilities include self-check-in kiosks, lounges, and efficient baggage handling systems.
