In a significant anti-narcotics operation, authorities in Nagpur have apprehended a suspected drug peddler and confiscated a substantial quantity of illegal substances. The coordinated effort highlights the ongoing crackdown on the drug trade in the region.

Joint Operation Leads to Arrest

A joint patrolling team comprising officials from the Narcotics Crime Bureau (NCB) and the Dhantoli police successfully intercepted and arrested a 36-year-old man. The accused, identified as Umesh Ramteke, a resident of Chandramani Nagar, was taken into custody near the NMC Railway underpass.

Contraband and Valuables Seized

During the search operation, the team recovered 51 grams of a substance suspected to be Mephedrone (MD). In addition to the narcotics, a mobile phone was also seized from the accused. The total estimated value of the recovered items is approximately ₹2.65 lakh.

The operation was led by assistant PSI Vijay Kadu. Authorities reported that Ramteke was spotted acting in a suspicious manner, which prompted the team to stop and search him, leading to the discovery of the contraband.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Following the arrest, a formal case was registered at the Dhantoli police station. The charges have been filed under the stringent Sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).

The initial investigation is being handled by PSI Sumedh Kumar Jadhav. As per official orders, the case has been transferred for a deeper probe to PSI Shivaji Tipurne of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force. This indicates the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this seizure.
